Wine Description for Riesling „Im Sonnenschein“ GG 2024 from Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that already reveals its youthful freshness and precision in the glass.
Nose
Restrained and refined, as is typical for the 2024 vintage at Rebholz. The shell limestone makes itself known with a subtle smoky note, accompanied by oyster shells, stone and a hint of graphite. The fruit shows itself juicy with mirabelle plums, pears and apples – elegant and without exaggeration. This restraint is not a weakness, but an expression of noble style.
Palate
Here the wine practically explodes: what seemed discreet on the nose unfolds on the palate with impressive presence. With a slender body and moderate 12% alcohol, this Großes Gewächs offers bright, clear fruit and that mouth-watering salinity that makes shell limestone Rieslings so irresistible. The fresh acidity structure carries perfectly, the minerality runs through the entire mouth. Precise, clear and at the same time sensual – a wine of impressive balance.
Finish
Long, saline and with a lingering stony minerality that resonates for minutes afterwards. The acidity remains lively, the fruit discreetly present.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Im Sonnenschein in the Queichtal is a special place: south-facing rather than the usual east-facing orientation on the Haardt ridge. At 160 to 250 metres elevation with 5 to 20% slope gradient, 60-year-old Riesling vines thrive on shell limestone from the Triassic – a soil that gives this wine its characteristic mineral signature.
Grape Variety & Vinification
After destemming and 24 hours of skin contact, fermentation took place in stainless steel. Ageing on fine lees gives the wine additional texture and complexity without compromising its crystalline clarity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The saline minerality calls for oysters or seafood. Also an excellent choice with sushi, scallops or pan-fried pike-perch with herb butter. The acidity makes it an ideal companion to goat’s cheese or light poultry dishes.
Special Features
A Großes Gewächs that places elegance above power – a Riesling for purists that shows how exciting restrained style can be.
