Wine Description for Riesling „Im Sonnenschein“ GG 2024 from Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a Riesling that displays its youth and freshness in the glass.
Nose
Fascinatingly restrained yet precise: The shell limestone speaks a clear language here with smoky nuances, oyster shells and graphite. Beneath this lies a juicy fruit layer of mirabelle plums, pears and green apples. The nose is rather subtle than obtrusive – a stylistic hallmark of the 2024 vintage at Rebholz, placing elegance above opulence.
Palate
Here unfolds the true personality of this Großes Gewächs. Built slender at 12% alcohol, yet by no means lightweight. The pale stone fruit is carried by a mouth-watering salinity and a vibrant minerality that stems from the shell limestone. The fresh acidity structure gives the wine backbone and tension. Precise, clear, sensual – a Riesling that appeals equally to mind and heart.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral with a fine aftertaste of stone fruit and limestone. The freshness persists and invites another sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Im Sonnenschein is a rarity at the Haardt edge: south-facing rather than east-facing, situated between 160 and 250 metres with a 5-20% slope. The Triassic shell limestone fundamentally shapes the character of this wine. The 60-year-old vines in the Queich valley near Siebeldingen yield grapes with natural concentration and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling from old vines. Following destemming came a 24-hour skin contact for additional extraction. Maturation in stainless steel with subsequent lees ageing – a classical method that lends the wine complexity without masking its crystalline purity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An ideal companion to oysters, scallops, pan-fried turbot or monkfish with saffron sauce. Also an excellent choice with asparagus with hollandaise sauce or goat’s cheese.
Special Features
A Großes Gewächs that perfectly represents the 2024 vintage at Rebholz: restrained in aromatics, yet all the more expressive on the palate. A wine for lovers of mineral, precise Rieslings with ageing potential.
