Wine information

Most of the vineyards on the edge of the Haard in the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest face east. However, the Siebeldingen site »Im Sonnenschein« is actually in the sunshine, because it is exposed to the south. The vineyard lies at 160 to 250 metres and has a slope of 5 to 20 %. The Riesling is in the »Siebeldinger Ganshorn« plot within the »Im Sonnenschein« site. While »Im Sonnenschein« is characterised by old Triassic soils with shell limestone, this parcel is still young, dates from the Pleistocene and consists mainly of gravel with red sandstone, gravel and loam. Since this vintage, to avoid confusion, the wine is only called All horn designated. The wine was matured after destemming and a maceration period of about 24 hours. After pre-clarification and natural sedimentation, fermentation followed in stainless steel and a six-month aging on the fine lees.

Although this Riesling comes from the same vineyard site as In the sunshinethe parcel »Siebeldinger Ganshorn" offers a completely different terroir, and therefore the All horn This wine also has a different appearance. In the fragrance, this Große Gewächs is cooler, tighter and more restrained. This is typical, as this wine always needs a little more time. At the beginning, a gin note with a lot of yellow and green citrus fruit as well as a herbal infusion dominates the character. Moreover, the wine reminds a little of beer yeast, maybe due to its long maceration time and the maturation on the fine yeast. However, this nuance soon disappears and gives way to the scent of damp stone in the summer sun.

If the Riesling did not have three grams of noticeable residual sugar, then it could also be called merciless in a positive sense, so straight and mineral it presents itself. There is not much fruit to be felt, apart from this cool citrus fruit, which one has already heard in the fragrance. Stone, phenolic, laurel, clear acid pressure and salty minerality determine the All hornThis is a wine that simply needs a few more years, but that is well known. If you give it this time, this is a great, long and deeply terroir-driven Riesling.
