Wine Description for „Aus den Lagen“ Riesling 2024 by Christmann

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with a clear, vibrant luminosity in the glass – an inviting first impression.
Nose
The nose is characterised by striking freshness and crystalline purity. Crisp yellow and green apples meet zesty citrus fruits and a hint of exotic carambola. Beneath lie fine herbal spice, crushed stone, a whisper of hay and fresh yeast, plus an invigorating splash of lime. An aromatic profile of impressive precision.
Palate
On the palate, the wine unfolds a remarkable tension between intensity and finesse. The fruit – dominated by citrus and crisp stone fruit – recedes behind a pulsating, almost electrifying salinity and minerality. The acidity is lively and precise, never turning sharp. A subtle hint of cubeb pepper lends the wine additional spice and depth.
Finish
Long, saline and sustained by persistent mineral tension. The finish closes fresh and clean – a hallmark of the exceptional quality of these vineyard sites.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from classified vineyards along the Haardt ridge – all VDP-certified First Growth or Grand Cru sites. In equal thirds, the Neustadter Vogelsang, the Königsbacher Idig, the Ölberg and the Meerspinne provide the fruit. An ensemble of Palatinate Riesling elite.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Riesling, spontaneously fermented and aged two-thirds in large Doppelstück oak. The warm spontaneous fermentation imparts complexity and depth without compromising the wine’s freshness and directness. Residual sugar minimal – dry and precise.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with grilled zander or sea bass with herb butter, equally compelling with oysters and seafood. Also an excellent choice with Palatinate Saumagen in refined preparation or a goat’s cheese salad with walnuts.
Special Features
The „Aus den Lagen“ Riesling from Christmann is an exemplary showcase of the new Palatinate Riesling school: dry, precise, mineral – and yet possessed of great sensuousness. An exceptional price-to-pleasure ratio for a wine of such terroir density.
