Wine Description for Riesling Eisquell 2024 by Battenfeld-Spanier

Colour & Appearance
Radiant, vibrant golden yellow – even in the glass, this Riesling signals energy and substance.
Nose
The nose is an inviting chamber of freshness: mirabelle plum and ripe apricot meet zesty notes of citrus peel, orange and grapefruit. Beneath these, fine herbal spice and a whisper of ginger weave through – and then, almost unobtrusive, that characteristic mineral depth which makes the Wonnegau unmistakably recognisable.
Palate
On the palate, the freshness continues with conviction: juicy, precise, with a texture that possesses genuine weight despite its lean 12% alcohol. The minerality is no cliché, but tangible – saline, chalky, grounded. A Riesling that doesn’t attempt to impress, but simply does.
Finish
Long, fresh and invigorating. The finish inevitably seduces you towards the next sip – that is the infallible sign of a well-made wine.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the chalky steep slopes of the Wonnegau around Hohen-Sülzen and the Zellertal in Rheinhessen – a terroir that gives Riesling that distinctive minerality and freshness which clearly sets this wine apart from its neighbours.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Riesling, hand-harvested and strictly selected once more at the sorting table. Aged in large old double-piece wooden casks as well as stainless steel; matured sur lie well into spring – a decision that gives the wine fullness and complexity without sacrificing its freshness.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion: excellent with grilled pike-perch or trout with herb butter, equally suited to Asian cuisine with ginger and citrus notes. It also makes an outstanding match with goat’s cheese, asparagus or a simple flammekuchen.
Special Features
The silver label marks a strict selection – the Eisquell is both entry point and promise into the portfolio of Battenfeld-Spanier. A wine that demonstrates that quality need not be a question of price.
