Terroir & Origin

Priorat, one of Catalonia’s most spectacular wine regions, is characterised by steep slate hillsides and the distinctive Llicorella soil – a brittle slate rock that stores heat whilst providing excellent drainage. Familia Nin Ortiz cultivates old vines in this demanding terrain and practises organic viticulture and minimal intervention. The name „Planetes“ refers to the various parcels from which this wine originates – a tribute to the diversity of terroir within this small yet complex appellation.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Grenache, here in the Catalan spelling Garnatxa, finds ideal conditions in Priorat. Familia Nin Ortiz works with old, ungrafted vines that root deeply into the slate soil, achieving natural concentration whilst maintaining freshness. Vinification employs spontaneous fermentation and minimal sulphur, with restrained ageing to preserve fruit clarity and the mineral signature of the Llicorella slate. The result is a wine that unites the aromatic finesse of Grenache – red berries, herbs, floral notes – with the saline minerality of the terroir.

This accessible yet characterful Grenache harmonises beautifully with Catalan cuisine: grilled vegetables, charcoal-grilled chorizo, lamb chops with rosemary or braised rabbit. Also an excellent choice with mature hard cheeses such as Manchego or with mushroom dishes.
