Wine Description for Pinot Grigio “Pipinot” DOC 2023 by Scarbolo
- Colour & Appearance
- Sparkling rose gold with attractive, apricot-coloured highlights.
- Nose
- The bouquet is immensely juicy and displays impressive intensity. A sumptuous panorama of ripe apples, honeydew melon, orange, mango and quince paste harmonises with nutty honey, oriental spices, candied ginger and creamy vanilla. Delicate accents of butter and toasted almonds round off this multi-layered impression perfectly.
- Palate
- On the palate, this Pinot Grigio presents itself as surprisingly powerful and expressive. It beguiles with an extremely juicy texture, in which a delicate fruit sweetness is seamlessly integrated into a lively, structured freshness.
- Finish
- An impressively long finish that skilfully extends the fruity, spicy notes and makes the wine a perfect partner for richly flavoured dishes.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes originate from Lauzacco in the Friuli Grave, not far from the Torre river and the Slovenian border. The soils, shaped by clay and siliceous sand, as well as the sheltered microclimate between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, provide fantastic conditions for a Pinot Grigio full of depth.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Single-varietal Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio), crafted under the direction of oenologist Lara Scarbolo. The siblings Lara and Mattia have led the 30-hectare estate into a new era since 2020, converting the vineyard to organic farming with biodynamic influences to fully exploit the region’s artisanal potential.
- Food Pairings
- An outstanding wine alongside aubergines “a Beccafico” with tomatoes, raisins and pine nuts in a Parmesan crust, a hearty lasagne with veal, beefsteak tomatoes, ricotta and pesto, or savoury pulled pork with oranges and ciabatta. Decanting and serving the wine in large glasses is recommended.
- Particularities
- The “Pipinot” breaks away from the industrial monotony associated with the grape variety. It impresses with its traditional, copper-coloured Ramato style – an expressive style whose revival in Friuli is largely attributable to the pioneering work of the Scarbolo family.
