Wine information
Pies Negros is the local wine in the Artuke portfolio, made from about 90 percent Tempranillo as well as Graciano. The grapes come from different vineyards in the municipality of Ábalos. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 550 to 620 metres in the Rioja Alavesa at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria, where the Atlantic influence is particularly noticeable in Rioja. The brothers Arturo and Kike de Miguel Blanco make this wine mainly in used 225- and 500-litre barrels, while a smaller batch matures in concrete tanks. As a result, Pies Negros 2021 stands for an excellent price-pleasure ratio.

Nose
Pies Negros 2021 has a lean, fresh nose in which white pepper and red fruit stand out. For all its buoyancy, the attractive bouquet also has something meaty that grounds the wine again. Overall, this nose shows the cool and fine side of Rioja.
Palate
On the palate, the Pies Negros 2021 is remarkably juicy and lean. The tannin is fine-grained, the texture silky and the finish has a medium length. The wine pulls nicely tight through the mouth, it has tension and is elegant. Although small oak barrels were also used in the vinification, the wood is not noticeable at all. This wine is a prime example of the motto "freshness and drinkability, instead of power and extract", which has become the leitmotif of a new generation of Spanish winemakers.
