About the wine
This exceptional Pinot Noir comes from the exquisite Premier Cru site of Île des Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses, nestled between Savigny les Beaune Les Vergelesses and Pernand-Vergelesses; a region whose quality is more in keeping with the Grand Cru level. In keeping with the surrounding Corton hills, the terroir of Pernand-Vergelesses is characterised by its limestone and siliceous red marl soils, rich in iron. Domaine Chandon de Briailles thrives on a total of 13.31 hectares planted with vines averaging 40 years old, some of which have even exceeded a proud age of 80 years. Its east-facing exposure with spontaneous fermentation in wood cuve, accompanied by a significant proportion of whole clusters, reveals the uniqueness of this wine. After ageing for 18 months, the wine was transferred by gravity into the barriques and tonneaux with minimal addition of new wood and then bottled directly from the barrel with a small amount of sulphur.

Aroma
This Pinot Noir from the heart of the Île des Vergelesses opens with a lush array of intense aromas. The symphony of ripe, dark fruits meets an invigorating blend of sour cherry, mint, graphite, undergrowth and blood oranges. Compared to the Savignys, which tend to be warmer and darker, the Île des Vergelesses reveals a cooler, tighter and more iodine-rich character. This is definitely a wine that requires some ageing in the decanter or cellar.
Taste
On the palate, this vintage Pinot is powerful, balanced and silky. It radiates incredible energy while offering deep minerality, clear acidity and fine tannins. Among the pronounced dark fruit notes, cherries and berries appear above all, as well as notes of sour cherries and barberries. This Île des Vergelesses is a fabulous wine - weightless, delicate and yet deep and complex. A wine that is already hard to resist, but will definitely benefit from a few more years of ageing.
Food recommendation
A stewed lentil stew, a tender pork tenderloin with cherry sauce or a prawn and mushroom pasta complement this wine perfectly.
