Wine description for the Lutzmannsburg, Alte Reben 2018 from Moric

Colour & appearance

Deep ruby red with garnet reflections and violet shimmer - a wine that visually reveals its origin from 85 to 110-year-old vines.

Nose

Complex and multi-layered: Black cherries and Elderberries dominate, followed by Wild herbs and a mineral note of Tar and peat. With air contact, an impressive depth of flavour develops with Violets and stony nuances - a prime example of the volcanic soils of the Lutzmannsburg Plateau.

Palate

This Blaufränkisch shows impressive maturity after just four years, but has the potential to age for at least two decades. The tannins are Mature and elegantenvelop the palate like velvet. Between red and dark berries the flavour oscillates, underpinned by earthy notes and a precise minerality. Despite its density and fullness, it remains light and dancing - a masterpiece of balance.

General information

Roland Velich vinifies this selection from six parcels with 20% whole-cluster fermentation in open wooden vats. After 23-28 days of maceration, the wine was aged on the lees for eleven years and a further twelve months in 500-litre barrels. Unfined, unfiltered and minimally sulphurised. Natural winemaking at the highest level.

Food pairing suggestions

Perfect for Mountain cheese dumplings with mushrooms and blackberry reduction, stuffed quails with blood orange or one Pheasant terrine with goose liver. The structure and complexity harmonise perfectly with strong, earthy aromas.

Special features

An authentic expression of the Pannonian climate and the volcanic soils. The old vines give the wine a concentration and depth that modern plants cannot achieve. A wine for the patient - its true potential will only unfold in the coming years.
