Wine Description for Monticara 2018 by Victoria Ordóñez

Colour & Appearance
Pale golden yellow with greenish reflections, crystal clear in the glass. A vibrant, youthful appearance that reflects the freshness of the high-altitude vineyards.
Nose
Enchantingly aromatic, as befits a great Moscatel: white peaches, orange blossom and rose petals dominate, underpinned by lemon zest and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. The nose displays that perfect balance between varietal expressiveness and restrained elegance that makes dry Muscat so fascinating.
Palate
Surprisingly dry and precise – a counterpoint to the sweet Málaga wines of yesteryear. On the palate, a crystalline structure unfolds with vibrant acidity that perfectly carries the floral and fruity notes. Stone fruit, lychee and a fine mineral salinity from the slate soils of the Sierras characterise the flavour. Medium body at a moderate 12% alcohol – a wine of Mediterranean fullness without any heaviness.
Finish
Long and aromatic with lingering floral notes and a refreshing citrus freshness. The mineral component remains present and lends the wine depth and complexity.
Terroir & Origin
From old, steep vineyards in the Sierras de Málaga, a region once world-renowned and which Victoria Ordóñez has been admirably reviving since 2015. The altitude and slate soils give this Moscatel its characteristic freshness and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Moscatel de Málaga (Muscat), made dry – a radical departure from the region’s sweet tradition. Terroir-focused vinification that respects both origin and grape variety equally.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Excellent with Asian cuisine, particularly Thai curries and Vietnamese summer rolls. Equally suited to grilled fish, seafood, goat’s cheese or as an aperitif with Spanish tapas.
Special Features
The first dry Moscatel from Málaga in decades – a pioneering project by a doctor who became a winemaker and revived a forgotten wine heritage. A wine that is making history.
