Info

Marenga comes from a site in Els Montalts. Fifty-year-old Garnatxa negra vines stand here at an altitude of 800 metres. The soil up there is not slate, but red clay and chalky gypsum layers. Some of the vines from this distinctly different site also end up in the top wine Guix Vermell. It is a stony, impetuous and very unique expression of the grape variety and the region.

After the harvest, the whole grapes are fermented in cement tanks for six to eight days. It was then allowed to mature in cement for another six months. Marcenga undergoes the gentlest extraction of all the wines in the portfolio.

Colour

Sparkling pomegranate red, bright reflections

Nose

The nose is unusual, as is the colour. Not red, not rosé. The aromas reveal rosehip as well as rooibos tea. But much more, it shows the depth of a Darjeeling. Earthiness, density and length at the same time. Juniper, pepper and dark chocolate make themselves felt. The fruit is clearly in the background. Green olive, almond and rosemary become more obvious in their expression. Cassis, elderberry and sweet cherry open up with a little temperature in the glass. Also fresh beetroot. Finally, a breeze of bergamot comes to mind.

Palate

On the palate, it presents a much brighter face. The fruit comes to the fore in strawberry, sweet cherry and red currant. The Mediterranean nuances coat the fruit brilliantly. It shows no tannin, but a fine and present acidity. Lean and elegant. Hardly any body or density. A true lightweight. At the same time, it has enormous depth. Fabulously straightforward. The fruit also gains the upper hand in the aftertaste. Rosehip, rooibos and Darjeeling find harmony here, too. And rounded off again by a fine breeze of bergamot.
