Tasting note
Location and soil:
Manincor and Panholzerhof, both south-eastern slopes at 250 m above sea level with lake views, with strong, sandy loam soils, interspersed with limestone gravel and other glacial rock deposits. These vineyards are among the warmest sites in South Tyrol and are predestined for great red wines.
Expansion:
Each batch was pressed separately, always with mash fermentation, partly spontaneously with the grape's own yeasts in wooden, concrete and stainless steel vats. The maceration lasted ten days and was done gently. It was only macerated once a day to obtain fine-grained, filigree tannins. Freshness and finesse are the top priorities. The twelve months of ageing were entirely in wooden barrels of various sizes.
Color:
Dense violet red.
Nose:
The 2022 Il Conte seduces the nose with fruity and floral notes reminiscent of blueberries, sour cherries, wild strawberries, ivy and roses. Subtle hints of foliage, porcini mushrooms, wood smoke and undergrowth are also recognisable and lend it structure and depth alongside an accentuated graphite note.
Palate:
On the palate, it is fruity and at the same time very spicy, and its tannin structure is still emphasised and pleasantly demanding in its youthful stage. This makes it the perfect accompaniment to intense mountain cuisine and aromatic pasta. Very good development potential.
If possible, decant and serve slightly chilled.
Food pairing suggestions
- Lamb fillet with roasted South Tyrolean bacon and pearl barley vegetables (meat)
- Buckwheat casserole with coarse pork sausage and beetroot (meat)
- Lasagne with fried eggplants (Vegetable & Vegetarian)
