Wine description for Pouilly-Vinzelles AOC 2022 1500ml Magnum from La Soufrandière
Colour & appearance
Intense straw yellow with brilliant clarity in the glass - a Chardonnay that already promises substance and maturity visually.
Nose
This Pouilly-Vinzelles is initially reserved, almost introverted. With a little patience, a precise interplay of flavours unfolds: Citrus fruitscrisp Pear and Apple, and nuances of yellow plum and more exotic Carambola. A creamy, almost patisserie-like component lends warmth and depth to the bouquet, while chalky minerality and delicate white flowers provide Burgundian elegance. A wine that needs time to open up - typical of this precise vinification.
Palate
The true class of this Chardonnay is revealed on the palate: silky, Juicy and impressively rounded. The fruit appears ripe and concentrated - Citrus fruits, Pome fruit and white peach merge into a harmonious whole. The acidity is striking, but never aggressive; it carries the wine through the palate with silky precision. Particularly noteworthy: a fine Tanning agent, which gives the wine structure and length - a sign of whole-cluster pressing and moderate use of wood. The finish is long, mineral and characterised by elegant tension.
General information
La Soufrandière cultivates two hectares at an altitude of 230 metres in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The 40 to 55-year-old Chardonnay vines are rooted in Clay-lime floors from the Bajocium. Hand-picked at the end of August 2022, spontaneous fermentation and ageing of 80 % in tanks, 20 % in wooden barrels. With only 36 mg/l Total sulphur a prime example of natural, precise viticulture. The magnum bottle promises optimum ageing potential.
Food pairing suggestions
This versatile Chardonnay harmonises perfectly with Butter chicken with fenugreek, Scallops au gratin with carambola mignonette or Taboulé of cauliflower with apples, nuts and coriander. The combination of fruit, acidity and texture makes it the ideal companion for creamy sauces and subtle spices.
Special features
The magnum bottling is not only a statement, but also an investment in the future: this wine will grow in complexity over the next 5-8 years. An authentic, terroir-influenced Chardonnay from the Mâconnais that combines Burgundian elegance with modern, minimally interventionist viticulture.
