Wine information
This wine comes from two hectares at an altitude of 230 metres in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation from 40 to 55-year-old Chardonnay vines on clay and limestone soil from the Bajocium. Hand-picked from 23 to 29 August 2022. This was followed by whole-cluster pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by ageing at 80 % in tank and 20 % in Pièces of 228 litres with 100-%iger malolactic fermentation. The total sulphur is 36 mg/l and the pH value is 3.24.
Color
intense straw yellow
Nose
The 2022 Pouilly-Vinzelles from La Soufrandière is a Chardonnay that is rather shy on the nose and certainly shyer than its Zen counterpartin which slightly fewer sulphites have been used. It smells citrusy and of crisp pear and apple notes, some yellow plum and carambola. There is also a warm, creamy aspect with a little patisserie, then again a chalky note, garnished with white flowers.
Palate
On the palate, the Chardonnay is silky, juicy, round and sensual with ripe citrus and pome fruit, as well as white peach. The acidity structure is distinctive yet quite silky and thus contributes to the sensual impression, which remains present until the long finish, where the wine is carried to the end by tannins.
