Wine Description for Grüner Veltliner Nussberg 2024 by Hajszan Neumann

Colour & Appearance
Medium yellow-green with vibrant silver reflections and a delicate, natural haze – a wine that doesn’t hide its origins.
Nose
A true Viennese character wine. The nose displays fine passion fruit notes and candied orange zest, underpinned by the varietal spice of white pepper. These are joined by earthy hints, quince, dried fennel and mellow apple – complex, yet never intrusive.
Palate
Juicy and taut at once. A precise acidity arc carries the wine, accompanied by pronounced saline minerality and a fresh citrus touch that imparts vibrancy and tension.
Finish
Long, precise and sustained. White stone fruit fades away, the minerality remaining present. No loud finale – rather a quiet, yet convincing aftertaste.
Terroir & Origin
The Nussberg ranks among Vienna’s most renowned vineyard sites – a terraced steep slope in the north of the city, characterised by flysch soils with limestone and sandstone components. This geological diversity lends the wine its characteristic salinity and depth. Hajszan Neumann is among the most reliable interpreters of this urban terroir philosophy.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Grüner Veltliner, vinified with the aim of maximum authenticity of origin. The slight haze indicates natural winemaking – minimal intervention, maximum expression. At 12.5 % Vol., the wine remains lean and approachable, dry on the palate.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Ideal with Wiener Schnitzel and potato salad, with grilled zander or trout on a bed of vegetables. This Veltliner also makes an excellent pairing with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, boiled beef or a classic cheese board featuring pungent Alpine cheeses.
Special Characteristics
This wine is no mainstream affair – it is angular, clear and uncompromising. It seeks not loudness, but depth. At the same time, it possesses an accessibility that makes it equally appealing to newcomers and connoisseurs alike – a rare quality reserved for great wines.
