Wine Description for Côtes du Rhône Rouge AOC 2023 from Roche-Audran

Colour & Appearance
Sparkling, intense purple, appearing almost black at its core, shot through with luminous violet reflections – a visual promise of youth and concentration.
Nose
Engaging and multi-layered: blueberries and sour cherries meet bright red berries, underpinned by the classic herbs of Provence. These are joined by lavender, violets and a fine note of white pepper. The nose already hints at that elegance and lightness which characterise southern Rhône wines in good vintages.
Palate
Juicy, refreshing and remarkably moreish. The charming fruit is carried by fine-grained tannins, whilst a lively acidity lends the wine structure and tension. The mineral component underscores its origin from the complex soils of Rasteau. A wine that already brings pleasure – unpretentious, but far from simple.
Finish
Medium length, fresh, with lingering herbal notes and a fine peppery spice that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyards lie on the north-facing slope of the hills of Rasteau and Cairanne at 180 to 250 metres altitude. The north-east and north-west aspect provides cooler conditions and longer ripening periods. The clay-limestone soils with maritime and alluvial pebbles give the wine its mineral precision and freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Classic southern Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan – a combination that harmoniously unites fruit, structure and spice.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal everyday wine for grilled vegetables, ratatouille, lamb chops, pasta with tomato sauce, pizza or medium-aged cheeses. Also an excellent choice with charcuterie and Provençal stews.
Special Features
An honest, craftsman-like solid family vineyard Côtes du Rhône that proves great drinking pleasure need not be expensive. The 2023 vintage shows itself to be approachable and charming – perfect for everyday enjoyment.
