Wine description for Chenin Blanc AOC 2022 from Clau de Nell
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale yellow with silvery reflections, clear and brilliant in the glass.
- Nose
- A fascinating aromatic profile of impressive complexity. Peach, apricot skin and honeydew melon form the foundation, complemented by fine notes of verbena, warm herbs and dried spices. With air contact, a remarkable mineral depth develops.
- Palate
- Medium-bodied with vibrant, fresh acidity. Ripe pineapple and candied ginger combine with intense minerality and a noticeable salinity. Fine tannins lend the wine unusual structure for a white wine. Precise, vibrant and seductively full-bodied on the palate.
- Finish
- Long and impressive, with persistent minerality and a fine saline note that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- From Anjou on the Loire, the heartland of Chenin Blanc, this wine comes from the renowned estate Clau de Nell. Founded by Anne-Claude Leflaive from the legendary Burgundy house Leflaive, the estate has been managed biodynamically by Sylvain Potin since 2009. Old vines on tuffeau soil lend the wine its characteristic depth and elegance.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Chenin Blanc from biodynamic cultivation (Demeter-certified). Careful vinification that brings the natural complexity of the grape variety and the minerality of the terroir to the fore.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- An ideal companion to grilled fish or seafood. Excellent also with aged goat’s cheese, poultry with herb crust or risotto with spring vegetables. The structure and minerality make it an exciting choice with Asian cuisine as well.
- Special Features
- 94 points from James Suckling. A Chenin Blanc of extraordinary precision and structure that combines the ambition of a Burgundy house with the terroir of the Loire.
