Wine Description for Le Mont Moelleux 2017 by Huet
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale, luminous golden yellow with a clarity that already promises freshness and precision in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose surprises with remarkable vibrancy – timeless and clear, yet threaded through with a fine, slightly smoky depth, as the Le Mont vineyard site always imparts. Yellow and green apple open the play, followed by ripe pineapple, curry leaves and a hint of saffron. Beneath lie ground stone and the notes of quince and honeywax so characteristic of Chenin Blanc – complex, yet never overloaded.
- Palate
- On the palate, a wine of striking balance unfolds. The 53 grams of residual sugar proves remarkably restrained – almost hidden behind a lively, precise acidity structure of 4.9 g/l, which lends the wine an almost electrifying tension. Indian spices, bitter orange and a vital, saline minerality characterise the mid-palate. Coherent, precise, of great inner harmony.
- Finish
- The finale is long, indeed furious: Only here does the sweetness come openly to the fore, embedded in notes of honey and salted almonds. A finish that lingers and unmistakably underscores the enormous ageing potential of this wine.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Le Mont hails from one of the most significant vineyard sites of Vouvray in the heart of the Loire. Domaine Huet, the epitome of biodynamic winemaking on the Loire, has vinified this site in all sweetness levels for decades. The tuffaceous subsoil lends the wine its distinctive, cool minerality.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Chenin Blanc in its noblest form: moelleux, meaning off-dry to sweet, with natural botrytis character. Vinification follows the principles of biodynamics – minimal intervention, maximum expression of terroir.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- The spice depth and lively acidity make this wine the ideal companion for fish curry with coconut milk, ginger and coriander. Equally convincing with quince tagine with basmati, ginger and cardamom or with caramelised scallops with morels and cream.
- Special Features
- A wine that delights already today, but will only reveal its full grandeur in ten to twenty years. The 2017 vintage on the Loire unites maturity and freshness in a rare way – and Huet’s Le Mont Moelleux is its most convincing ambassador.
