Wine Description for Le Mont Moelleux 2015 by Huet
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous golden yellow in the glass, which already visually announces the maturity and concentration of this noble sweet Vouvray.
- Nose
- A mysterious, positively enigmatic Chenin Blanc that eludes conventional description. Whilst exotic notes of pineapple and mango flash only briefly, smoky-spicy aromas dominate the bouquet. Flint, smoked hay and a fascinating association of damp stonework meet Indian spices – ginger, saffron, quinces and an almost mustardy spice. A nose that poses more questions than it answers – in the best possible way.
- Palate
- Impressively complex and in constant metamorphosis. The wine transforms from minute to minute, yet remains utterly authentic and terroir-driven. Apricots, mangoes, greengage plums and kumquats are accompanied by a surprising note of yellow English wine gums. Yet the true greatness reveals itself in the remarkable extract, in the substance and the vibrant mineral acidity that effortlessly carries the sweetness. The bitter nuances of citrus fruits enhance the refreshing dimension.
- Finish
- Of inspiring length and depth. The balance between sweetness, acidity and mineral tension is exemplary and promises an ageing potential of at least 40 years.
- Terroir & Origin
- Le Mont is through and through a child of its terroir – silex and tuffeau define the character and structure of this extraordinary Vouvray from one of the Loire’s most renowned vineyard sites.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Chenin Blanc in the moelleux style, which at Huet unites craftsmanship and terroir in rare purity. 12.5% alcohol testifies to the natural balance between sweetness and freshness.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Dover sole with fried parsley in beurre blanc, langoustine in sesame crust with ginger butter or a date tajine with basmati, ginger and cardamom – the wine accompanies both delicate seafood and spicy, exotic cuisine with aplomb.
- Special Features
- A wine that rewards patience and resists quick consumption. 2015 has produced a darker, more mysterious style at Huet – fascinatingly different.
