Wine Description for Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes AOC 2024 by Thomas Morey

Character
A Premier Cru of classical precision – Les Chenevottes embodies what Chassagne-Montrachet has stood for for centuries: white Burgundy with depth, tension and unmistakable mineral integrity. Thomas Morey, one of the most reliable craftsmen of the Côte de Beaune, produces here a wine that places elegance above opulence and lets the terroir speak without overwhelming it.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Les Chenevottes lies in the eastern part of the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, on the gentle slopes of the Côte de Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. The soils are characterised by calcareous marl and clay – a combination that gives Chardonnay both structure and a characteristic coolness and minerality. The vintage 2024 is considered demanding in Burgundy, with damp spring conditions and a saving late summer that brings freshness and acidity structure to the fore – qualities that suit a vineyard site like Les Chenevottes exceptionally well.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay in its Burgundian pure form: Thomas Morey works with the aim of bringing the raw material into the bottle as unadulterated as possible. The maturation takes place traditionally in barrique, with Morey known for carefully dosing the oak influence to preserve the wine’s natural tension. The result is a Chardonnay with vibrant acidity, fine texture and a long, clean finish – dry, focused and of genuine substance.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Les Chenevottes is a wine that truly comes alive at the table. It harmonises beautifully with scallops in butter sauce, grilled turbot or a classic Poulet à la crème. Mature Comté or a fine lobster with tarragon are also ideal companions. Those who prefer vegetarian options will find an elegant match with Risotto ai funghi porcini or truffle pasta.
