Wine description for Bourgogne blanc „Les Petits Poiriers“ AOC 2023 by Thomas-Collardot

Character
A classic Bourgogne blanc that interprets the Burgundian Chardonnay tradition with contemporary freshness. The Bourgogne AOC appellation allows winemakers to blend grapes from various parcels throughout Burgundy – an art that demands precision and finesse. The name „Les Petits Poiriers“ (The little pear trees) hints at a specific vineyard site and lends this entry-level wine a personal touch that transcends generic regional wines.
Terroir & Origin
Burgundy, this complex mosaic of limestone soils and microclimates, shapes Chardonnay like no other region. Although the Bourgogne AOC represents the broadest appellation, it benefits from the same geological foundations as the great vineyard sites: Kimmeridgian limestone and marl, which impart Chardonnay with its characteristic minerality. The 2023 vintage brought a warm summer following a challenging spring, resulting in an alcohol content of 14% – by Burgundian standards, decidedly moderate-powerful.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay is the undisputed queen of white Burgundy wines. Thomas-Collardot likely works in the classic Burgundian style: hand-harvesting, gentle pressing and ageing in stainless steel or used barrels to preserve fruit and freshness. With Bourgogne AOC wines, the goal is to capture the essence of the grape variety without overwhelming it with excessive oak. The dry orientation (minimal residual sugar) aligns with the traditional Burgundian profile and emphasises acidity structure and minerality.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This versatile white wine pairs beautifully with goat’s cheese, particularly a young Crottin de Chavignol. Equally recommended: poached fish, scallops, poultry in cream sauce or a classic omelette aux fines herbes. Burgundian cuisine with its escargots and gougères finds an ideal companion here. Also an excellent choice with sushi and lightly buttered asparagus.
