Wine Description for Faustine Vielles Vignes Blanc VdF 2023 by Abbatucci

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow, luminous and crystal-clear in the glass – a visual promise of Mediterranean freshness.
Nose
An aromatic fireworks display of pure Mediterranean essence: clear apple and stone fruit meet grapefruit zest and orange blossom. Beneath unfolds the wild Corsican maquis with young rosemary, lavender flowers and wild fennel. Delicate peach notes and a saline sea breeze complete the multi-layered bouquet.
Palate
The attack surprises with creamy texture and silky viscosity that elegantly envelops the peppery backbone. True to Vermentino character, the wine shifts between restrained fruit and herbal-spicy maquis. The acidity remains discreetly in the background, whilst a robust salinity enlivens the palate. Refreshing, quenching and cooling – with markedly dry character.
Finish
Persistent and salt-driven with lingering herbal spice. The wine leaves a nourishing, mineral impression that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from old vines at approximately 100 metres above sea level in the valley of Domaine Abbatucci. Corsica’s granite-rich soils lend the wine its characteristic minerality and salinity. With only 25 hl/ha, yields are deliberately kept low – quality over quantity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of Niellucciu and Vermentino (Rolle). Harvested early morning, destemmed and immediately pressed, the wine ferments at cool 18 degrees. Five months ageing in stainless steel preserves the fresh aromatics. Bottled unfiltered and only lightly filtered – pure transparency in the glass.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Wild herb salad with figs, grilled sea bream with lavender and rosemary or herb-confit rabbit with artichokes – the wine loves Mediterranean aromatics and saline sea notes.
Special Features
Domaine Comte Abbatucci is a flagship estate of Corsica and Demeter-certified. As a custodian of indigenous grape varieties, the estate works consistently biodynamically. Since AOC regulations restrict the old varieties, this exceptional wine appears as Vin de France – a quality statement beyond rigid appellation boundaries.
