Tasting note

Colour & Appearance
Luminous orange to amber.
Nose
Unusually youthful, dense and captivating. Notes of lime blossom and orange blossom combine with mint, smoke and saffron. Beneath lie candied ginger, orange peel, pineapple, dried soft apricot, quince as well as a delicate touch of honey and barley sugar.
Palate
On the palate, an outstanding balance of density and creaminess meets a vibrant structure. Multilayered stone fruit, black tea and caramel encounter a striking note of bitter orange, evocative of dark English marmalade.
Finish
A spectacular finish of immense length. The dazzling acidity captures the noble sweetness perfectly, leaving a tangy, highly complex ageing potential for many decades to come.
Terroir & Origin
Sourced from the renowned Tokaj vineyard sites Danczka, Lapis, Becsek and Percze. Here, the vines are rooted in characterful volcanic terroir such as white rhyolite tuff.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 80% Furmint and 20% Hárslevelű (harvested in September 2012). Following tradition, six hods (Puttonyos) of noble rot-affected Aszú berries were added to 136.5 litres of base wine. Ageing took place over 28 months in 5-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks, followed by several years of bottle maturation prior to release (10.0% ABV, 207 g/l residual sugar, 9.3 g/l acidity).
Food Pairings
Classic alongside firm blue cheese such as Stilton, sophisticated with sweetbreads with caramelised quinces, or an elegant poultry liver parfait tart with pistachios.
Particularities
Under the leadership of Anthony Hwang, the estate combines the historical heritage of the former purveyor to the Tokaj royal court with the expertise of Loire icon Domaine Huet. Since 2008, the entire estate has been farmed uncompromisingly biodynamically.
