Zio Paolo is Vito Lauria's first wine and thus the progenitor of the VinoLauria collection. The single-varietal Nero d'Avola comes from the wide and flat plains with heavy clay soils around Alcamo. The vineyards of the winery were already cultivated organically before the child even got its name. The preservation of the soils, the basis of its home and its vines, is the guarantor of origin-based wines.
Stylistically, it represents the new Sicily with its light style and shows that filigree and freshness need not be foreign words even for Nero d'Avola. Harvested in mid-September, the yield averages five tonnes per hectare. The grapes are pressed and cold macerated on the skins for 24 hours. Fermented spontaneously in steel tanks, the wine matures on its lees for 12 months before being put on sale.
Color
Purple red with violet reflections.
Nose
The 2020 Zio Paolo from VinoLauria seems to be bursting with rich dark fruit on the nose. Blackberries, mulberries and blueberries are underpinned by distinctive spicy notes reminiscent of tobacco and warm forest soil. In addition, there are mild spices such as black pepper, allspice and light tobacco. Pointed appearance with appealing fruit performance.
Mouth
It is youthfully impetuous on the palate. The youthfully juicy fruit is framed by tannins that are as young as they are stimulating. Joyful and sparkling, it oscillates in a triangle between fine phenolic and agile acidity, which gives it additional drinkability. A modern Sicilian with a transparent core and a slightly tart, mineral cool finish. Stable!
