Wine Description for Gluegglich Weiss by Loimer

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow with natural cloudiness – an unfiltered wine that makes no attempt to hide its authenticity.
Nose
Invitingly yellow-fruited with a parade of ripe apples, medlars and mirabelle plums. Beneath this lie herbaceous, spicy notes of sage and chervil, whilst subtle yeast aromas lend depth. An aromatic profile that combines complexity with accessibility.
Palate
Here the true personality of this wine reveals itself: juicy on the attack, with a taut phenolic framework that gives the wine structure and grip. The finely bitter tannins – presumably from the Zierfandler – harmonise perfectly with the ripe acidity. The distinctly herbal fruit never comes across as intrusive; rather, it contributes to a harmonious whole. At a moderate 12% alcohol, the wine remains light-footed and inviting to drink.
Terroir & Origin
From the Kamptal, one of Austria’s most renowned wine regions, where Fred Loimer ranks among the most innovative winemakers. The region is known for its primary rock soils and pannonian climate, which produce fresh, mineral-driven wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
An unusual blend of Chardonnay, Riesling and the autochthonous variety Zierfandler. The latter brings that phenolic texture and herbaceous spice which gives this wine its distinctive character. The natural cloudiness points to minimal intervention in the cellar – a wine that honestly reflects its origins.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile food companion: lamb’s lettuce with apples and nuts, rye bread with pepper mackerel or a sandwich with cold roast and pumpkin seed pesto. The phenolic structure also makes it compatible with lightly smoked fish or poultry dishes.
Special Characteristics
A wine that lives up to its name in every respect: uncomplicated, honest, happiness-inducing. Perfect for everyday enjoyment without guilt – a „Gluegglich“ in the truest sense.
