Viña Pilar Clarete 2022

The pressing of rosés from red and white wine grapes has a long tradition in the Duero region. In this case, it is referred to as a "clarete". The first-class Felix Callejo winery, still something of an insider tip, is returning to this old tradition The "Viña Pilar Clarete 2022" is made from 50 per cent Tempranillo and 50 per cent Albillo Mayor, an indigenous white grape variety. The grapes come from two vineyards at an altitude of over 900 metres on the plateau above the Duero Valley. As a result of climate change, these cooler locations are becoming increasingly sought-after. In this Clarete, the blue and white grapes were fermented together spontaneously and the wine matured for 14 months on the fine lees in concrete eggs and in 500-litre oak barrels.

Salmon

The bouquet is expressive with floral aromas and red fruits. The nose is sensual, fresh and balanced, with a mineral undertone that adds to the complexity.

In the mouth, this rosé shows a great balance of acidity, body and tannins. Everything is fabulously integrated and in harmony, including the 14% alcohol. The "Viña Pilar Clarete 2022" has fine silky tannins, an elegant texture and a lovely length on the finish. This is a rosé with a focus on finesse that marvellously combines the red fruit of Tempranillo and the animating freshness of Albillo Mayor. Further proof that Ribera del Duero can do much more than just red wine.
