Wine information
The Tiglat is a single-varietal Chardonnay from the Seewinkel region on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland. The vines were planted in 1959 under the assumption that they were Pinot Blanc. Heinz Velich and at that time also his brother Robert Velich produced Austria's first great, internationally successful Chardonnay from it in the 1990s. Since then, the wine, which used to be powerful, has become increasingly fine and elegant. The grapes are harvested by hand at full ripeness and, after standing, slowly pressed as whole clusters, fermented spontaneously at a relatively warm temperature and aged on the full lees in wood for two years.

light golden yellow
Nose
The Tiglat is one of the best Chardonnays in Austria every year and does not shy away from international comparisons. This is particularly true in 2020, as the wine is even finer, brighter and clearer than in the two previous years, when there was more yellow fruit and more mellowness. The 2020 Tiglat opens with lots of white flowers, some smoke and slightly reductive notes that are present but do not dominate. There are also notes of lemon oil, salted lemons and limequats, some lime and iodine, as well as the finest pastries and a little wood.
Palate
On the palate, this is a lively and thoroughly powerful wine that is at once silky, creamy, deep and lining with fine wood, with yellow, green and orange-coloured fruit,
and a lot of silky texture. In addition, the Tiglat Salty and excitingly mineral, dense and endowed with a wonderful, deep aroma in a combination of fine spice and savoury zest, a fine extract sweetness, pear and lemon cream. All of this does not want to end for a long time, has an intense effect and only ebbs away slowly.
