Colour & Appearance

Radiant golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a Chardonnay that announces its substance and concentration right from the glass.

Nose

Distinctly Burgundian in character: citrus and delicate peach notes meet pronounced minerality with hints of sea breeze and flint. The yeasty notes are youthfully present, complemented by subtle aromas of white bread crust, sage and mint, which lend the wine a refreshing vibrancy.

Palate

Playful yet forceful – an impressive combination. The salinity is pronounced, the precision remarkable. Fine tannins structure the juicy body and impart international class to the wine. Despite its 14% alcohol, it never feels heavy, instead displaying elegant tension.

Finish

Long, mineral and with persistent freshness – the wine resonates with saline notes and leaves a lasting impression of complexity and depth.

Terroir & Origin

The single vineyard site Tiglat – an old dialect expression for a small parcel of vineyard – was planted as early as 1959 and brought the Velich estate on Lake Neusiedl international recognition. The Pannonian climate with its warm days and cool nights shapes the character of this extraordinary Chardonnay.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Chardonnay, crafted in Burgundian style. The yeast ageing is distinctly perceptible and lends the wine additional complexity and texture – a Chardonnay that can stand alongside the great wines of Burgundy.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Perfect with grilled turbot, scallops with lemon butter, truffle risotto or calf’s sweetbreads in morel sauce. The wine pairs beautifully with intense, aromatic dishes with a savoury twist – Asian fusion cuisine with ginger and lemongrass also harmonises wonderfully.
