Wine Description for Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée “1859” 2021 1500ml by Trapet Père & Fils
- Colour & Appearance
- A luminous, transparent garnet red with violet reflections at the rim.
- Nose
- Aristocratic and precise. The bouquet reveals cool notes of sour cherries, wild raspberries and dried rose petals, underpinned by a fine mineral smokiness and a hint of white pepper.
- Palate
- On the palate, the classic brilliance of the 2021 vintage shines through. With a slender 12.5% alcohol, the wine is dancing yet profound. Red currants and pomegranate meet a taut, yet fine-grained acidity. The tannins are of silky texture, perfectly woven into the structure and lend the wine an almost intellectual grip.
- Finish
- Long and focused, characterised by a cool minerality and a subtle salinity that makes you crave the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- Deeply rooted in the limestone marl of Gevrey-Chambertin. Jean-Louis Trapet’s biodynamic viticulture allows the soil to speak unfiltered – a wine that was not “made” but “accompanied”.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Pinot Noir. Gentle extraction and maturation in wood, with fruit brilliance and provenance always taking precedence over cellar influence.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Excellent with pheasant, calf’s sweetbread with morels or a classic Boeuf Bourguignon, one that does not overwhelm the wine’s elegance.
- Special Features
- The Cuvée “1859” celebrates the long history of the Domaine. In the magnum bottle, the wine presents itself even more youthful and promises extraordinary ageing potential with maximum freshness.
