Wine Description for Beaune 1er Cru Aux Coucherias AOP 2023 3000ml Double Magnum by Boris Champy

Character
Boris Champy, a respected figure in modern Burgundy, interprets the classical elegance of the Côte de Beaune with this Premier Cru from Beaune. The vineyard site Aux Coucherias yields Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse and medium body – typical of the rather accessible, yet by no means simple wines from Beaune. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol. underscores Champy’s philosophy of restraint and precision, allowing the vineyard to speak rather than technological intervention. The bottling in the imposing Double Magnum moreover promises optimal ageing conditions for the years to come.
Terroir & Origin
Beaune forms the commercial and viticultural heart of the Côte d’Or. The Premier Cru vineyard sites on the southern slope benefit from calcareous soils with marl and clay content, which lend the Pinot Noir structure and mineral tension. Aux Coucherias enjoys a favourable exposure and yields grapes of concentrated aromatics whilst maintaining freshness – a balance that in the 2023 vintage, with its climatic challenges, demanded considerable craftsmanship.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir from Burgundy is regarded as the benchmark for the variety worldwide. Boris Champy works according to biodynamic principles and relies on spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts as well as careful ageing in French oak barrels. His wines are characterised by transparency and drinkability without sacrificing complexity. The 2023 vintage should display the typical aromas of red berries, cherry and subtle spice notes, set within a silky texture with vibrant acidity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Such a Beaune Premier Cru harmonises beautifully with Coq au Vin, braised veal or duck breast with cherries. It also reveals its strengths alongside aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or Chaource. The elegant structure makes it an ideal companion for mushroom dishes or autumnal terrines.
