Visual impression

In the glass, it presents a delicate, slightly cloudy garnet red colour that fades into lighter shades at the edge - typical of a youthful, unadorned Pinot Noir that is yet to tell its story. The transparency of the wine reveals the careful hand of the winemaker, who avoids excessive extraction and instead emphasises elegance and precision.

Nose

The bouquet unfolds with a fascinating combination of cool fruit and earthy depth. Initially dominated by fresh Sour cherries and wild Wild raspberrieswhich are soon followed by more mature notes of Plums and Blackberries connect. Underneath lies a subtle layer of Elderberry and moist Undergrowthwhich is accompanied by a delicate floral component - a hint of Ivy, Rose petals and freshly cut Boxwood. The wood is masterfully integrated, framing the flavours without dominating them - a testament to the 16 months of ageing in barriques, of which only 20% were new.

Palate

On the palate, the wine reveals a remarkable balance between youthful fruit intensity and structural finesse. The juicy berry fruit is supported by a velvety, fine tannin structure that lends the wine texture without showing rigour. The moderate, lively acidity - a gift of the cool Palatinate microclimate - gives the wine freshness and length. Christmann's mastery is evident here: an entry-level wine that fully reflects the house's quality philosophy and whose potential for further refinement becomes tangible with every sip. The use of 20-30% whole bunches during fermentation gives the wine an additional aromatic complexity and structural depth that sets it apart from many of its peers.

General information

The 2022 vintage is at its best here - a warm year that nevertheless retained enough freshness to produce Pinot Noir with precision and elegance. The grapes were harvested at the beginning of September (2 and 6 September) - an ideal time to achieve the perfect balance between ripeness and freshness. With 13.0% alcohol and a subtle residual sweetness, the wine is balanced and accessible without denying its origins.

Particularly noteworthy is the magnum filling (1500ml), which allows for slower, more harmonious ageing and makes this wine an ideal candidate for cellar ageing. Bottling did not take place until April 2024, which gave the wine sufficient time to develop its complexity in the barrel.

Food pairing suggestions

This Pinot Noir unfolds its full potential at a well-laid table. It harmonises wonderfully with Roast duck breast with Cherry sauce, Mushroom risotto with matured Parmesan cheese or a classic Boeuf Bourguignon. Also to Game dishes with Cranberries or a plate of selected Matured soft cheese it proves to be an equal partner. The fine acidity structure also makes it a surprisingly versatile accompaniment for dishes with subtle flavours. Asian seasoningsuch as Peking Duck or Five-Spice Tofu.
