Wine description for Pinot Noir „Aus den Lagen“ 2023 by Christmann

Character
The Pinot Noir „Aus den Lagen“ embodies Steffen Christmann’s philosophy of accessibility without compromising on quality. As an entry point into the renowned Burgundy family of the estate, this wine displays the crystalline clarity and Burgundian finesse for which Christmann is internationally appreciated. With 13.0% alcohol, the 2023 presents itself as elegant and approachable, characterised by the cool precision that distinguishes the estate.
Terroir & Origin
The Christmann winery in Gimmeldingen on the Mittelhaardt belongs to the absolute elite of German wine producers. The grapes come from various vineyard sites of the estate and are combined into a harmonious blend. The limestone soils of the Palatinate give the wines their characteristic minerality, whilst the mild climate of the region ensures physiological ripeness at moderate alcohol levels. The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season that favoured freshness and fruit clarity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Christmann treats Pinot Noir with the same biodynamic care (Demeter-certified) that also benefits the world-class Rieslings of the estate. Vinification follows Burgundian principles: gentle hand-harvesting, natural yeasts and restrained use of oak that does not mask the fruit. The result is a Pinot Noir of crystalline purity that keeps fruit, structure and elegance in balance – a wine that proves great Burgundies can also come from the Palatinate.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The silky texture and moderate structure make this Pinot Noir an ideal companion for roasted poultry, veal schnitzel or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with aged Gruyère or Brie. The freshness of the vintage harmonises beautifully with wild salmon or tuna tataki. A versatile food companion that also impresses on its own.
