Wine description for Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2024 1500ml Magnum from Le Chiuse

Character
Le Chiuse ranks among Montalcino’s authentic artisanal producers, placing tradition and terroir above market trends. This Rosso di Montalcino embodies the accessible side of Sangiovese from this privileged zone – less extraction, shorter ageing than the grand Brunello, yet the same provenance, the same soils. Presented in a magnum bottle, the wine promises slower, more harmonious development. The 2024 vintage is still young, yet the Rosso is precisely designed to showcase the vibrant fruit and freshness of Sangiovese.
Terroir & Origin
Montalcino sits majestically south of Siena atop a hilltop, surrounded by galestro-rich soils – that stony limestone-clay mixture which lends Sangiovese structure and minerality. Le Chiuse manages vineyards in exposed positions, where Mediterranean influences meet continental coolness. This climatic balance allows Sangiovese to achieve ripeness without losing its characteristic acidity and elegance – crucial in an era of increasing warmth.
Grape variety & Vinification
Sangiovese in pure form, as DOC regulations require. Unlike Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, which must age at least two years in barrel, the Rosso may be released after just one year – thereby revealing the fruity, juicy side of the variety. Le Chiuse works traditionally, with natural fermentation and ageing in larger wooden casks, which structure the wine without dominating it with oak aromas. The result is a wine that unites drinking pleasure and authenticity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Rosso calls for Tuscan cuisine: Pici all’aglione, hand-rolled pasta with garlic and tomato sauce, Bistecca alla Fiorentina from the charcoal grill, Pappardelle al cinghiale with wild boar ragù, or aged Pecorino. The moderate alcohol content and vibrant acidity also make it an ideal companion for pizza with salami or grilled vegetables with rosemary.
