Tasting Notes for Riesling Riede Steiner Schreck “This is not a love song” 2021 by HM Lang

Colour & Appearance
Medium, slightly cloudy lemon yellow with distinct green highlights.
Nose
Cool, ethereal freshness defines the aromatic profile: lemon, lemon balm, green apple, eucalyptus and sage. Given a little time in the glass, complex notes of crushed rock, lemon oil and preserved herbs emerge.
Palate
On the palate, it reveals a razor-sharp structure with vibrant acidity. The wine is crystal clear, invigorating and leaves a delicate saline trail on the tongue – all at a slender 11.0% ABV.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes originate from the steep Demeter-certified single vineyard site Steiner Schreck in Stein an der Donau (Kremstal). There, the deeply rooted vines thrive on barren gneiss soil.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Single-varietal Riesling, harvested according to strict pH criteria (pH 2.9). Markus Lang presses the grapes using a custom-built tree press with 100 tonnes of pressing pressure over several days in the open air. Maturation takes place via spontaneous fermentation in earthenware amphorae deep inside the cool gneiss tunnel at a constant 9 °C.
Food Pairings
An excellent match for creamy yellow courgette soup with ricotta dumplings, wild-caught Skrei cod with preserved lemon, peas and Sauce Caprice, or dim sum filled with succulent pork and finished with a crispy honey-orange glaze. Decant thoroughly before serving and enjoy from large Burgundy glasses.
Special Features
A puristic, unfiltered biodynamic wine with a poetic name that unites highly complex minerality with an astonishingly low alcohol content.
