Tasting note
Colour & Appearance
Radiant, pale golden yellow with silvery reflections.
Aroma
A cool, focused bouquet streams from the glass: crisp green apple, fresh citrus fruits and spicy ginger combine with a captivating, cool minerality. Very multifaceted and with infectious freshness.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals itself as delicate, dancing and pure. The vibrant acidity gives it enormous dynamic energy. Powerful yet light-footed, this drop beguiles with race, finesse and a concentration of strength that lingers long despite the moderate alcohol level.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the Braunsdorfer single vineyard (Riede) in Stein an der Donau (Kremstal). Here, vines up to 100 years old grow on primary rock rich in gneiss. Markus and Heideline Lang work strictly according to Demeter biodynamic guidelines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Grüner Veltliner. Harvesting is uncompromisingly determined by optimal pH levels. The grapes are pressed over two days on a massive, specially constructed tree press. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in large wooden casks, followed by 2.5 years of maturation on the full lees in stone amphorae – deep in the cool gneiss tunnel at a constant 9 °C.
Food Pairings
Pairs excellently with Asian dishes featuring fresh ginger, pan-seared pike-perch on lentil vegetables or fine Tafelspitz (boiled beef) with apple horseradish.
Key Features
Demeter-certified handcrafting from a former Airbus engineer. The extreme, multi-day pressing and maturation in stone amphorae lend the wine an extraordinary structure alongside a remarkably low alcohol content.
