Wine Description for Pinot Blanc 2024 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Colour & Appearance
Pale, clear yellow with youthful reflections – a wine that announces its freshness already in the glass.
Nose
Remarkably multi-layered for a seemingly straightforward Pinot Blanc. The nose unfolds an opulent palette of white-fleshed fruitspear and quince dominate, flanked by peach, apricot and yellow plums. These are joined by citrus notes, a hint of peonies and subtle hints of honey, hay and white nougat. This complexity surprises and delights.
Palate
Here the true class of this wine reveals itself: fresh and juicy, yet completely dry and infused with lively energy. Despite moderate 12% alcohol, it possesses remarkable aromatic intensity. The fruit palette from the nose returns, complemented by nutmeg notes and a hint of rose. The silky texture is structured by a fine tannic grip – unusual and exciting for a white wine in this category. The finish presents itself saline-mineral and remarkably long.
Terroir & Origin
A refined cuvée from vines in two contrasting vineyard sites: The hills at Rotenberg below the legendary Clos Windsbuhl provide grapes from red shell limestone, whilst the plain at Herrenweg with loamy-gravelly soil contributes structure. This combination creates balance between elegance and substance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Actually a cuvée of Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc – marketed under the designation Pinot Blanc as is customary in Alsace. Early harvesting at optimal ripeness enabled swift fermentation to a dry wine. Maturation in traditional large wooden vats, which lend the wine finesse without obtrusive oak notes. Average vine age: 21 years.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Versatile companion to fish terrines, scallops, pan-fried char or pike-perch. Excellent with poultry in cream sauce, veal schnitzel or mushroom risotto. The mineral freshness harmonises perfectly with goat’s cheese and young Comté.
Special Features
A prime example of how Zind-Humbrecht elevates even seemingly simple appellation wines to the highest level. Light-footed in alcohol, powerful in aromatics – a complex, distinctive wine that far exceeds its category.
