Wine Description for Aloxe-Corton rouge AOC 2023 by Bruno Clair

Character
Aloxe-Corton belongs to those appellations of the Côte de Beaune that display an almost paradoxical elegance: structured and serious, yet never heavy-handed. Bruno Clair, one of Burgundy’s most reliable houses, produces here a wine that combines artisanal precision with the unmistakable character of its terroir. With 13.0% Vol. alcohol and dry vinification, it remains lean and focused – a wine that rewards patience.
Terroir & Origin
The hill of Corton is the only location on the Côte de Beaune that holds Grand Cru status for both red and white wines – a testament to exceptional geological diversity. The soils of Aloxe-Corton are characterised by iron-rich, red clay over limestone, which imparts a distinctive depth and mineral substance to the wines. The 2023 vintage was marked in Burgundy by warmth and early ripeness, yet careful selection yielded wines of remarkable freshness and balance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir in Burgundy is more than a grape variety – it is a medium through which soil, vineyard site and winemaker’s hand speak. Bruno Clair is renowned for a respectful, non-interventionist approach in the cellar: gentle extraction, judicious use of new oak and an ageing process that does not overpower the fruit, but rather places terroir at the forefront. The result is wines with tension and length rather than opulence.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The structure and weight of this wine make it a classic companion to Burgundian cuisine. Recommended pairings include Coq au Vin, braised lamb shoulder with Provençal herbs or duck breast with cherry sauce. A mature Époisses or a robust Comté also harmonise wonderfully with its mineral depth.
