Wine Description for Origin Boisson Spiritueuse Marc de Champagne Été 2023 2023 500ml by Emmanuel Brochet

Character
Emmanuel Brochet, one of the most exciting spirit producers in Champagne, presents with this Marc de Champagne a fascinating facet of his work beyond sparkling wine. The spirit, bottled at 50% Vol., embodies the artisanal tradition of Champagne, in which the pomace is distilled after winemaking. The designation „Été 2023“ refers to a summer distillation, intended to capture the fresh, aromatic character of the grapes – a deliberate choice for vibrancy and fruit expression rather than extended barrel ageing.
Terroir & Origin
Brochet works in the Côte des Bar in the southern part of Champagne, a region known for its chalky soils and slightly warmer microclimate. These conditions also shape the Marc: the pomace carries the mineral signature of the terroir within it, that essence which already lends structure and tension to the base wines. Champagne has a long tradition of Marc production, which today is being revived by few winemakers such as Brochet with contemporary sensibility.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Although the exact grape composition is not specified, one can assume with Brochet the classic Champagne varieties – Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay. The distillation is carried out artisanally, likely in small batches, to preserve aromatic complexity. The high alcohol content and the deliberate bottling without extended maturation speak for a style that prioritises freshness and grape proximity over oxidation and wood influence – a modern interpretation of a traditional product.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Such a Marc is excellent as a digestif after an opulent meal. Classically with dark chocolate or nut pastries, but also experimentally with aged Comté or blue cheese. The summer freshness could also accompany fruit desserts with stone fruits.
