Tasting note from from 24.07.2023, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

The Sole e Vento is a cuvée of the two indigenous grape varieties Grillo and Zibibbo and combines the terroirs of Marsala and Pantelleria. It is the entry-level billet to Marco de Bartoli's two estates, with the Grillo responsible for the structure and the Zibibbo for the aroma. The grapes from both origins are destemmed after careful manual selection, then gently pressed and macerated at a controlled temperature for about 24 hours. The must is then drawn off and sedimented for 48 hours before spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts begins. The wine ferments at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and then ages for seven months in stainless steel vats. De Bartoli's dry wines are given minimal doses of sulphur before bottling.

Color

Brilliant straw yellow.

Nose

With fine fruit, the 2022 Sole e Vento from Marco de Bartoli alternates between floral and saline notes and the typical varietal character of its main players. The Zibbibo contributes white flowers, fine spicy notes and the rich fruit of melons and prickly pears, while the Grillo is responsible for the delicately citrusy components. In the top note, orange blossom and white flowers are joined by the distinctive salty note of fresh sea breeze and oyster shells.

Mouth

Revealing with juicy fruit and striking grip, the Sole e Vento is a real crowd-pleaser that combines everything you would expect from a Mediterranean white wine. The aromas of the nose are mirrored on the palate, distinct orange blossom, underpinned by salty minerality and tart tannin, which noticeably lowers the resistance to swallowing and allows high-frequency refilling.
