Wine Description for Les Pieds Rôtis AOP 2023 from Château de Coulaine

Colour & Appearance
Radiant golden yellow with delicate green reflections – a Chenin Blanc that already displays its youthfulness and freshness in the glass.
Nose
Honest, distinctive and powerful – this 2023 presents itself with a bouquet of green apple, apple skin and quince. These are joined by grapefruit, lemon zest and a fine walnut note. With air contact, the wine reveals its maritime side: iodine, sea breeze and dried oyster shell combine with vegetal nuances of celery, nettle and a hint of anise.
Palate
Powerful and demanding – this Chenin Blanc is no simple charmer. A pronounced minerality and intensely saline grip dominate the attack. The fine nutty spice is balanced by a creamy, charming texture that lends the wine accessibility despite its structure. A white wine with backbone and character.
Finish
Persistent saline-mineral character with lingering citrus notes and a fine bitterness that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard of the same name lies on the left bank of the Vienne on a south-easterly slope with extraordinary terroir: gravel, fossil deposits, red clay and white limestone give this Chenin Blanc its pronounced minerality and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chenin Blanc, vinified in a style that emphasises the terroir characteristics and the natural acidity structure of the grape variety. 12.5% alcohol – moderate power with maximum precision.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The perfect dining companion for seafood cuisine: oysters, scallops, grilled sea bass, bouillabaisse or ceviche. Also a revelation with goat’s cheese, smoked trout or asparagus with hollandaise sauce.
Special Characteristics
A Chenin Blanc with pronounced character – for lovers of mineral, saline white wines with substance. Its maritime character makes it an ideal partner for demanding fish and seafood dishes.
