Wine Description for La Pasajera 2024 by Victoria Ordóñez

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow with greenish reflections – a classic Verdejo profile that promises freshness and vibrancy.
Nose
An impressive interplay between lush fruit and green freshness. The wine unfolds aromas of grapefruit, mango and grilled pineapple, complemented by ripe peach and juicy nashi pear. Yet what distinguishes this Verdejo is its herbal contrast: lemon balm, sage, sorrel and chervil lend the nose a racy complexity. At warmer temperatures, the fruit becomes particularly generous, whilst lime zest and Meyer lemon provide summery elegance.
Palate
On the palate, the crisp freshness of Granny Smith apples dominates – a signature hallmark of fine Verdejos. Unlike many exotically opulent examples of the variety, this wine favours domestic fruit clarity. The medium acidity carries the wine effortlessly, allowing it to dance across the tongue. The herbal notes return in the finish, ensuring a refreshing, uncomplicated drinking experience. Well-balanced, without overloaded fruit – a Verdejo that prioritises elegance over opulence.
Finish
Medium length with a fresh, slightly herbal kick. The green accents remain present and leave a clean, refreshing impression.
Terroir & Origin
From the D.O. Rueda, Spain’s Verdejo heartland. Victoria Ordóñez, however, has made her name particularly in the Sierras de Málaga, where she has been reviving ancient steep-slope vineyards since 2015. Her work stands for the renaissance of a once world-renowned wine region.
Special Features
Victoria Ordóñez is a career-changer with a medical doctorate who rediscovered Málaga’s dormant wine heritage. With audacity and vision, she founded the first winery in the region in decades. Her Verdejo from Rueda demonstrates that she possesses a sure hand for terroir-driven, characterful wines even outside her home region.
