In 1435, the Guild of Vigneri was founded in Catania in the shadow of Mount Etna. The aim of this association of winegrowers was to teach the younger generations how to grow vines and make wine on Europe's highest volcano. Almost six centuries later, Salvo Foti has re-established the I Vigneri. The vigneri master all the work that needs to be done in the vineyards throughout the year, just as it has always been done on Mount Etna: pruning the vines, ploughing, repairing the dry stone walls, etc. Apart from the strength of their hands, they can only count on the help of Gino the mule. In addition to advising the currently six I Vigneri wineries, Salvo Foti also produces his own wine according to the principles of the Vigneri tree vines, indigenous grape varieties, protection of the environment and respect for people.
