Wine Description for Gevrey-Chambertin Capita 1er Cru 2017 by Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance
A clear, luminous garnet red with brilliant reflections that mirror the youthfulness of the vintage.
Nose
The bouquet is aristocratic and profound. It reveals aromas of wild strawberries, dark cherries and a distinctive floral note reminiscent of dried rose petals and violets. Behind this lies a cool, noble earthiness, complemented by a hint of smoke and undergrowth.
Palate
On the palate, the “Capita” displays remarkable precision and an almost ethereal elegance. The texture is characterised by fine-grained, silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that structures the wine beautifully. It is concentrated without feeling heavy – a textbook example of the purity of the 2017 vintage. Flavours of redcurrants and a delicate spice dominate the mouthfeel.
Finish
Long and focused. The finish is marked by a saline minerality and an invigorating freshness that lingers for minutes.
Terroir & Origin
This Premier Cru is a blend of Trapet’s finest parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin (including En Ergot, Corbeaux and Combottes). Biodynamic viticulture ensures that the different nuances of these vineyard sites merge into a harmonious unity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir. Jean-Louis Trapet practises a gentle vinification that resembles an infusion rather than an extraction, to preserve the integrity of the fruit and the soul of the soil.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to roasted quail, calf’s sweetbreads or a classically prepared pheasant. Also a delight with aged Comté.
Special Characteristics
A wine of almost philosophical depth. It embodies Trapet’s creed of “guided, not forced” winemaking. A Pinot Noir for purists who value finesse and terroir expression over sheer power.
