Wine Description for Fontanasanta Nosiola Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2023 by Foradori

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with silver rim – a hue that reflects the alpine freshness and clarity of the Dolomites.
Nose
This Nosiola demands patience and oxygen. Initially closed, it unfolds its multi-layered aromatic profile after vigorous aeration – ideally in a decanter – revealing: green hazelnuts and green almonds dominate, followed by subtle notes of cider apples and pears. A hint of sage and bay leaf as well as brioche lend the wine a Mediterranean herbal spice. The aromatics radiate a remarkable calm and concentration.
Palate
On the palate, Fontanasanta proves considerably more communicative: A vibrant acidity stretches elegantly across the entire palate, lending the wine structure and tension. Finely dry tannins recall apple and pear skins with their characteristic phenolic notes. The viscous texture and vinous character make it already accessible now, yet its true potential will only unfold with further ageing.
Finish
Medium to long, carried by the present acidity and fine bitterness, which leave a refreshing dryness.
Terroir & Origin
The Nosiola grapes thrive on a hillside above Trento on loamy-calcareous soils, which provide the autochthonous grape variety with ideal ripening conditions and maximum expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested, the wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation on the skins in cement tanks – a technique Foradori has perfected with his red wines as well. It then matures for eight months in used acacia barrels. This skin contact time lends the wine its characteristic texture and phenolic structure. Annual production: approximately 25,000 bottles.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Risotto with porcini mushrooms, pan-fried trout, asparagus with Parmesan shavings, veal schnitzel with lemon or aged mountain cheese from Trentino.
Special Characteristics
A wine that rewards patience: only after three years of bottle age does it reveal its full potential. The skin fermentation in the style of an orange wine lends this rare grape variety extraordinary depth and ageing potential.
