Wine Description for Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum from de l’Enclos

Colour & Appearance
Intense straw yellow in the glass, luminous and with remarkable depth – a visual promise of the concentration this Grand Cru delivers.
Nose
For a Les Clos, the 2023 shows itself remarkably accessible and expressive. The nose is a mineral symphony: flint, smoke and crushed stone meet petrichor – that unmistakable scent of rain on dry stone. These are joined by white flowers, apple, mirabelle plums and lemon zest, whilst subtle notes of tobacco and wood lend complexity.
Palate
Here the full class of this Grand Cru reveals itself: juicy, sensual and surprisingly open for its youth. The ripe fruit brings a fine, almost hidden sweetness that makes the wine charming and inviting. Yet fear not – behind it lurk pressure and vibrant freshness. The Les Clos displays depth and structure, plays with fine tannins and develops towards the finish a saline, energetic tension that electrifies the palate.
Finish
Long, mineral and saline – the wine bids farewell with crystalline precision and leaves a lasting impression of stone and sea.
Terroir & Origin
The 0.67-hectare parcel lies in the lower section of Les Clos, the historic heart of this legendary climat. The vines were planted in 1964 by the grandfather – sixty-year-old roots that grip deep into Kimmeridge limestone.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, hand-harvested on 12 September 2023. Following slow whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation took place in used tonneaux, where the wine aged for 13 months. Coarse filtration, light sulphiting (79 mg/l), bottled in November 2024 – purist vinification that gives terroir pride of place.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Lobster, scallops, turbot in butter sauce, poultry in cream sauce, Comté or Beaufort – this wine demands sophisticated cuisine at the highest level.
Special Features
The magnum bottle promises even slower, more harmonious maturation. Despite its early accessibility, this 2023 possesses enormous ageing potential – a Grand Cru that in 10-15 years will tell quite a different story.
