Wine Description for Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos AOC 2022 1500ml Magnum by de l’Enclos
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a classic appearance for a young Grand Cru from Les Clos.
- Nose
- Typically reserved for Les Clos, this 2022 still shows restraint and demands patience. Even after hours of aeration, it reveals itself only reluctantly: subtle smokiness, citrus zest and white flowers form the core, accompanied by delicate exotic nuances – ripe pineapple, melon and a hint of mango. This restraint is not a shortcoming, but an expression of enormous potential.
- Palate
- Here the wine opens considerably more generously. The texture is silky and creamy, almost velvety, with an irresistible charm. Yet then the picture transforms: the wine becomes increasingly austere and peppery, more citric and demanding. Here Les Clos reveals its true greatness – depth, a fine tannic structure, saline minerality and vibrant energy. Despite this complexity, the Grand Cru retains its seductive charm. A wine that clearly has years ahead of it.
- Finish
- Long, precise and mineral with persistent citrus freshness and saline tension.
- Terroir & Origin
- The 0.67-hectare parcel of the Bouchards lies in the lower, historic heart of the Grand Cru Les Clos – the most demanding and longest-lived vineyard site in Chablis. The vines planted in 1967 are deeply rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone, which gives this wine its characteristic minerality.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay, hand-harvested and slow whole-bunch pressing. Spontaneous fermentation and ageing in used tonneaux – a vinification that gives maximum expression to the terroir without masking it with wood. Coarse filtration and minimal sulphiting.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Dover sole with beurre noisette, lemon purée and North Sea prawns, Poulet à l’Estragon or creamy polenta with winter truffles and egg. The magnum bottle makes this wine ideal for festive occasions.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle provides optimal ageing conditions for this long-lived Grand Cru. Recommended drinking window: 2028–2040.
