Wine Description for K-libre VdF 2023 from Clos Troteligotte

Colour & Appearance
Pale golden yellow with vibrant, green reflections, which underscore the freshness and youthfulness of this unconventional Chenin.
Nose
Chenin Blanc from Cahors – a geographical provocation that pays off aromatically. The nose presents ripe pears and juicy quinces in a refreshing interpretation, flanked by grapefruits and salted lemons. Fine herbal notes join in, a hint of sourdough and subtle smoke – presumably an echo of maturation in amphorae and used wood.
Palate
Here the true sensation reveals itself: at just 11.5% alcohol, the K-libre develops remarkable power and substance. Juicy and quaffable on the attack, with a ripe, rounded acidity that becomes increasingly forceful and piquant towards the finish – this is the DNA of Chenin Blanc. The zesty sharpness keeps the wine lean and inviting to drink, despite its surprising body. A fascinating balance between richness and elegance.
Finish
Persistently fresh with mineral precision and an acidity that cleanses the palate and invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from clay-limestone soils in Quercy, the historic landscape around Cahors. A low yield of 40 hl/ha concentrates the aromas and gives the wine its structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chenin Blanc, hand-picked and pressed directly as whole bunches. Spontaneous fermentation with maceration, maturation in used wood and clay amphorae. Unfiltered, unfined, with minimal sulphur (21 mg/l total sulphur) – a natural approach that lets the grape variety and terroir speak for themselves.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with oysters, scallops, goat’s cheese, pan-fried monkfish or asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The acidity and minerality also harmonise beautifully with sushi and ceviche.
Special Characteristics
A bold wine from an unexpected region: Chenin Blanc in the Malbec country of Cahors is a rarity. The combination of low alcohol, natural vinification and impressive structure makes this Vin de France a fascinating drinking experience for lovers of authentic, living wines.
