Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rosé AOC 2024 by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Intense, copper-coloured rosé with hints of grapefruit peel – far removed from the pale Provence clichés. This colour already signals: substance awaits in the glass.
Nose
Expressive and multi-layered, this Bandol presents itself with wild strawberries and redcurrant meeting pomegranate and barberry, complemented by juicy grapefruit and hints of peach and melon. The spicy component comes from white pepper, anise and fennel, rounded off by citrus peel and Provençal herb flowers.
Palate
Here the true nature of Mourvèdre reveals itself: juicy, powerful, almost meaty in texture. Ripe stone fruit, orange peel, liquorice and Mediterranean herbs unfold on a foundation of vibrant acidity and subtle yet perceptible tannins – a rosé with backbone. The saline character and piquant bitterness on the finish make you want more.
Finish
Persistent and saline-mineral, with a hint of citrus peel and herbal spice. The fine tannin structure carries far and leaves a refreshing, appetite-stimulating impression.
Terroir & Origin
The vines thrive in a natural amphitheatre opening towards the Mediterranean on clay, limestone and chalk soils from the Triassic period. This unique site shapes the wine’s mineral, saline character. The modest yield of just 23 hl/ha guarantees concentration and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 65% Mourvèdre and 35% Cinsault. Whilst the Cinsault was directly pressed, the Mourvèdre underwent the saignée method for 24 hours – hence the colour intensity and structure. Spontaneous fermentation over 20 days at 20°C, followed by six months ageing in stainless steel.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This substantial rosé calls for Mediterranean cuisine: bouillabaisse, grilled tuna, lamb chops with Provençal herbs, ratatouille, grilled squid or a Provençal aioli platter. The tannin structure also makes it an ideal companion for rosé-roasted veal.
Special Features
An old-school Bandol rosé: powerful, complex and food-friendly – far more than an aperitif wine. The Mourvèdre dominance lends it a personality that has become rare in the world of Provence rosés.
