Wine Description for Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embrazées AOC 2024 by Thomas Morey

Character
A classic Chassagne-Montrachet from the hand of one of the most reliable white wine producers of the Côte de Beaune. Thomas Morey, whose family has been among the defining forces of this village for generations, brings forth with the Embrazées a Premier Cru that embodies the typical tension between mineral rigour and Burgundian fullness. At 13.0 % Vol., the wine remains balanced and shows the hallmark of a winemaker for whom precision matters more than spectacle.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Les Embrazées lies in the southern part of the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, on the border with Santenay, on limestone-rich soils with a marked proportion of clay. This geological composition lends the wines a characteristic earthy depth and structural density, which distinguishes them from the more elegant, finely-structured Premier Crus in the northern part of the appellation. The 2024 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a wet spring and a decisively fine late summer – conditions that rewarded winemakers with careful hand-harvesting and patience in the cellar.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay in Chassagne-Montrachet is not merely a grape variety, but an expression of place. Thomas Morey works with the aim of letting the terroir speak, without obscuring it through excessive oak influence. His style is known for a measured use of barriques – traditional, but never heavy-handed – as well as for a vinification that preserves the natural acidity structure and the mineral character of the vineyard site. The wine is made dry and built for longevity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this origin and structure calls for dishes with substance and finesse. Pan-fried turbot with beurre blanc, Lobster Thermidor or a classic Poulet de Bresse à la crème are ideal companions. The wine also harmonises beautifully with aged Comté or scallops on saffron risotto – dishes that respect its depth without overwhelming it.
