Wine Description for Bianco del Casal IGT 2023 from Ca´ La Bionda

Colour & Appearance
Radiant golden yellow in the glass – a colour that already promises maturity and substance.
Nose
An intoxicating bouquet of aromas that immediately transports you to southern climes: honeydew melon, pineapple and orange form the exotic foundation, framed by delicate florals, floral honey and white nougat. These are joined by anise and candied ginger, whilst notes of crispy baguette with salted butter, dried apricots and vanilla mousse hint at skilful oak ageing. A complex, multi-layered nose that awakens curiosity.
Palate
Juicy and fruit-driven on the palate, with a distinct yet by no means intrusive fruit sweetness, perfectly balanced by refreshing acidity. Remarkable is the fine tannin, which lends the white wine structure and grip – a sign of oak ageing and old vines. The texture is creamy, the fruit present, the spice elegantly integrated.
Finish
Long and spicy, with lingering notes of exotic fruits and vanilla. The acidity ensures freshness right through to the end.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from Marano di Valpolicella in the Veneto, a region primarily known for its red wines. That Ca’ La Bionda produces such a characterful white wine here speaks volumes for the potential of the vineyard site and the expertise of the winery.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of old clones of Trebbiano and Garganega, two classic Venetian varieties. The skilful use of oak lends the wine complexity and structure without overwhelming the fruit – a balancing act that succeeds masterfully here.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion: Excellent with grilled fish, scallops, saffron risotto, roasted poultry with apricots or creamy pasta dishes. Also an exciting pairing with Asian cuisine featuring ginger and lemongrass.
Special Features
An unusual white wine from Valpolicella that proves this region has more to offer than Amarone. The combination of old vines, exotic aromatics and structure-giving oak ageing makes it a distinctive, characterful wine with surprising ageing potential.
